Stockton, California was the birthplace of Nicholas Robert Diaz on August 2, 1983. A tough fighter, Diaz is a student of Cesar Gracie and holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He sports a decent pro record of 12 wins and 6 losses, five losses by decision. He began fighting 2 weeks after his 18th bithday and in the span of just two years he became the WEC and IFC Champion, as well as a top contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. 2001 saw Nick Diaz make his successful entry into Mixed Martial Arts competition: a submission victory over Mike Wick at an IFC show. Nick won his UFC debut with a triangle choke of Jeremy Jackson at UFC 44 and followed up with another victory at UFC 47 when he defeated the tough Robbie Lawler. To his credit, Nick avenged a career loss to Jeremy Jackson twice.
Nick Diaz faced Ultimate Fighter season 2 winner, Diego "The Nightmare" Sanchez in the Finale promotion where he lost by unanimous decision. The fight was brought about over Diaz's criticism of Diego's quick rise to fame. At UFC 57, he lost to Joe Riggs via unanimous decision. “This is me and this is what I do,” Diaz has been quoted as saying. “I don’t have any fallback plans like the rest of these people." A well rounded fighter, Nick Diaz is also a professional boxer and competes in jiu-jitsu competitions and gi-less competitions. Diaz is a fighter with a tremendous amount of potential and experience at a very young age. Many feel that if Diaz continues to improve, that the Gracie student could be one of Mixed Martial Art's future dominant stars. Only time will tell if the prediction holds any weight.
